Exhale Liquid Perfume

Exhale is one of two perfumes (the other being Inhale) that are part of Lush's unique perfume-splitting venture. Breath of God is one of the best-selling and highly acclaimed perfumes that the company currently offer their fans. Lush have taken this complex and highly sophisticated fragrance and divided the notes into two separate perfumes.

There are many reasons why Lush have chosen to do this. Firstly, for those that love the original perfume, they now have a chance to enjoy the fragrance in a rather compacted form. This gives it longevity on the skin and also removes any wastage that often occurs when you're using a spray bottle. As this is presented as an oil, you can utilise every drop of it without losing any of the scent. Secondly, for those people like myself, who find Breath Of God too pungent, it gives us a chance to experience the perfume in a simpler, less overpowering manner so we can enjoy the different layers without being engulfed by a thousand notes all at once.

This particular half is the darker, heavier of the two and I really thought I was going to dislike this at first. However, it wasn't as potent as I was expecting, and once it had been on the skin for a short while, I found myself growing to love the smell.Lush describe Exhale as 'dark and intoxicating...intensely incensey...rich, smoky'. For someone who dislikes fragrances that have really overpowering notes of smoke and wood, I was expecting to find this too intense and horrible. Yet, I found it strangely alluring.
It is the vetivert and cade oil that makes the biggest impression here - combining to give off notes of sandalwood and cedarwood. These are quite rich and intense, yet they lack the after-bite that makes Breath Of God too pungent for me. After being on the skin for about twenty minutes, these smoky notes move aside and a gentle and slightly sweet musk aroma comes forward, which is lovely.

This latter scent stays on your skin for a good few hours, occasionally giving off little bursts that remind you of its presence. It's a really warming and very comforting aroma. While it's a little on the sweet side, it's not as sugary or as sickly as any of Lush's other perfumes; while it has a distinctive layer of smoke, it's not so strong that it overpowers all of the other ingredients. In fact, I would say that Lush have balanced this perfume perfectly.

I'm actually really surprised at how much I enjoyed this, and while I wouldn't run out and invest in another bottle once this one has been used up, it is a perfume I would recommend to others.
